the man behind the brand
Leon Gorman is a multi-talented hairstylist that has chosen to take his love of the artistry from the salon chair to the shower. As a hair connoisseur for over 30 years, it's no secret that he brings sophistication and strong editorial direction, not to mention charisma and grit, to every project he inhabits. Where that once revolved around perfecting manes on editorial fashion shoots, now it's focusing on the ways in which hair care routines around the world can be elevated with an ingredient from his homeland, Irish Organic Seaweed, as well.
The son of an Irish hairdresser from County Antrim in Northern Ireland, Leon embarked on his career with the encouragement of his mother. In 1987, he left the peaceful tranquility of the Irish countryside to join the ranks of Toni & Guy, a multi-award winning salon brand in London. Over the next decade, he traveled all over the world working on shows and shoots as the Education Artistic Director for the company. From there, Leon found himself in Australia and, after a brief settlement in Sydney, he used his ever-expanding network of fashion industry contacts to jumpstart the next chapter of his career: New York City.
After honing his skills all across the world, it was in New York City that Leon really began to establish himself as one of the industry's most in-demand session stylists. Over the years, he's worked closely with Cutler Salon and Redken, while cultivating his own respect and admiration from top-tier designers, leading shows and productions for Cynthia Rowley, John Richmond, Nanette Lenore, Gabrielle Colangelo, Luisa Beccaria, Carlos Miele, and Vivenne Tam, among others. What's more, his collaborations with prestigious fashion photographers have been featured in the illustrious pages of iconic industry publications, including Vogue (American, German, British, Australian, and Japanese), Elle (English, Italian, and American), Glamour, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire, i-D, POP, AnOther Magazine, Visionaire, and V Magazine. Throughout his experiences, he's worked with notable celebrity names like Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, Ellen Barkin, Michelle Monaghan, Jack Huston, Ewan McGregor, Ethan Hawke, Marisa Berenson, Lucie de la Falasie, Chloe Sevigny, Rebecca Romijn, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway and Lauren Hutton.
It's through these experiences, and with the encouragement from his wife, Benny, that Leon realized that the world of haircare has been missing out on a piece of his home. Alas, his excitingly successful journey in the industry has brought him back full circle to the shorelines of his beautiful homeland where he is creating a haircare line centering around Ireland's lush organic seaweed.
